D&D at the game store: Adventurers League and other programs
Dungeons & Dragons is a tabletop roleplaying game: a Dungeon Master describes the world and plays the monsters, and the other players each control one hero. Organized play lets you join a table at a store without a regular group, because every adventure is designed to be played in one or a few sessions.
Adventurers League
D&D Adventurers League is Wizards of the Coast's long-running organized play campaign. Your character can move between tables, stores and conventions and keeps its progress. In April 2026 Wizards kept Adventurers League as the legacy ongoing campaign built on community adventures from the DMs Guild, and added new programs next to it.
The newer programs
- Play Seasons - themed seasons tied to new D&D releases; the first was the Season of Horror, tied to Ravenloft.
- D&D Encounters - returning weekly play: a launch celebration event, then four weekly sessions of 90 minutes to 2 hours.
- Legends of Greyhawk - a new ongoing campaign using the 2024 rules, with monthly adventures.
- Store event types for Learn to Play, Campaign and One-Shot games.
What to bring
- A set of polyhedral dice: d4, d6, d8, d10, d12 and d20.
- A pencil and a character sheet, or a pre-generated character from the DM.
- Optionally a miniature to represent your hero on the battle map.
Gritty Goblin Games stocked D&D books and products such as The Deck of Many Things and Phandelver and Below: The Shattered Obelisk. Use the Wizards Store & Event Locator to find D&D events near you.
