Pathfinder Society: how Paizo's organized play works
Pathfinder is a fantasy tabletop roleplaying game published by Paizo. Pathfinder Society is its organized play campaign: you create one character and bring it to any Society table, at a store, a convention or online, and it keeps its experience and rewards.
Pathfinder Second Edition and the Remaster
In November 2023 Paizo released Player Core and GM Core, a revised version of Pathfinder Second Edition known as the Remaster. It removed Open Game License material after the 2023 OGL controversy. New players should start with the Remaster books.
2026 rule updates
- All adventures can be replayed, as long as a different character earns the credit each time.
- New characters can start at level 1, 3, 5 or 7.
- Pathfinder Provisions were removed.
Changes to monthly scenarios
In 2026 Paizo announced a restructuring. Monthly Pathfinder Society scenarios wind down in October 2026, and monthly Paizo Printables adventures take their place. Paizo also opened Society play to fan-written scenarios through its Infinite program. Pathfinder Society itself continues, and so does Starfinder Society.
How to join a table
- Create a free Organized Play ID on paizo.com.
- Build a level 1 character with the Player Core, or ask the GM for a pregenerated one.
- Bring dice, a pencil and your character sheet.
